Preliminary Round

Prelimary rounds will kick off on 20th February 2010 with 'Relieving Gaia'. In Greek Mythology, Gaia refers to the Greek Godness personifying earth. Unfortunately, with rising sea levels, freak weather conditions and soaring global temperatures - Gaia and its inhabitants are in peril. With the current crisis Mother Earth is undergoing, we hope to use this segment of GC to draw our attention to the various efforts we, as humans, can do to ameliorate the dire situation, hence relieving Gaia of the multiple stresses placed on the resources. The concept of sustainable development techniques will be explored in great depth.

The GC2010 Preliminary Rounds will take place at the following date and time:
20th February 2010, Saturday
8.30am to 12.30pm
Registration begins from 7.30am

The Preliminary Rounds consists of two components, the MCQ and Application Question round. The MCQ round will comprise 30 MCQ questions relating to Geography while the Application Question round will require participants to think critically and creatively about real issues.

  1. What exactly is an application question? Is it open ended? Is it an essay? Do the team members get to discuss the answers?
    Thanks!

  2. Hi First-timer,

The AQ question requires application of your knowledge to real-life situations. It can take on any form of presentation, not necessarily an essay. It is a team effort, so team members get to discuss.

Hope this helps. For more information, please refer to http://nusgc2010.blogspot.com/2010/02/time-program-0730h-0815h-registration.html

    thanks for your question!
